Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Which pass should I buy?
We're selling two different types of passes, Dance Only Passes and Full Access Passes. Buy a Dance Only Pass if you want to attend only the evening dances and the late night dances. Buy a Full Access Pass if you want to take classes during the day and attend all the dances at night.
Q: What’s with the different tiers?
The different tiers are different price points of the Full Access Pass. All three give you entry into the same workshops and dances. Other than price, there is no difference between the tiers. We’re doing this to ensure that BluesQuake is accessible to people from a variety of economic backgrounds. Please choose a price tier are you comfortable paying.
Q: Will I be able to buy passes at the door?
We will be selling passes at the door, unless the event sells out. You will be able to purchase entrance to a day of classes, the evening dances and the late night dances. Note: Buying entrance to everything individually will be more expensive than buying a pass in advance.
Q: What are the different class levels?
That's a very good question. We have an entire page dedicated to it!
Q: I picked a class level when I bought my ticket, can I change which classes I’m taking?
Yes. We encourage people to pick a class level that is appropriate for them during registration. This gives us an idea of how many people to expect in each class. However, if you find yourself in the wrong class please switch to a more appropriate level.
Q: I want to buy a pass for a friend but I can only buy one pass at a time. What's up with that?
That is a quirk with EventZilla. If you wish to buy two tickets please complete registration twice. Sorry for the headache!
Q: What kinds of blues music will you play?
BluesQuake is a blues dance event. Our DJs and bands will play a wide range of blues music. This includes Delta, Chicago, California, electric, lap steel, fingerpickin’, blues-rumba, blues-jazz, gutbucket, slow-drags, blues-funk, etc. The immediate family of the blues genre will also be in attendance. Expect to hear some “slow jazz”, New Orleans jazz, Zydeco, slow hot jazz, burlesque blues, etc. Roughly 2/3 from the first category, 1/3 from the second.
Q: How do I get my ticket?
We do not have physical or electronic tickets. When you purchase a pass your name will be added to the entry list. When you arrive at BluesQuake please check-in at the registration table with a photo ID.
Q: What is the BluesQuake Refund policy?
BluesQuake passes are refundable up to one month prior to the event. The last day for a refund is March 11th. Passes are always transferable.
Q: How do I transfer a pass?
Confirm the pass transfer via an email with both parties. Include [email protected] in the email chain, so we have a record. Bring a printed copy of the email to the registration desk. (Ensure that the print out shows the email addresses of the original purchaser, the current pass holder and [email protected])
Q: What is the BluesQuake Code of Conduct?
The Code of Conduct is a document that we, as members of the community, expect the community to agree to. The first part describes expected behavior, which really comes down to “Be nice to each other and treat everyone with respect”.
The second part describes how we will deal with violations of the Code of Conduct. There are two options. One option is for all parties to sit down with a trained mediator (BluesQuake has trained mediators on staff.) An agreement will be worked out that is agreeable to all parties. If that is not an option, for whatever, reasons, the offender will be ejected from one or more nights of the event.
Q: What is BluesCon?
BluesCon, which is short for Blues Connection, is a group dedicated to promoting blues dancing in San Francisco and the Bay Area. We mostly work behind the scenes to support local venues. We also organize larger events to promote San Francisco as an regional and national hotbed of blues dancing.
Q: I forgot to buy a shirt! How can I buy one?
Simple! Just go to the EventZilla registration page and select tee shirt. Go through the checkout procedure and answer “not applicable” for all the questions. (Except tee shirt size. Gotta answer that one.) Tee shirts cost $20.
