Music
BluesQuake is a blues dance event. Our DJs and bands will play a wide range of blues music including Delta, Chicago, California, electric, lap steel, fingerpickin’, blues-rumba, blues-jazz, gutbucket, slow-drags, and blues-funk. The immediate family of the blues genre will also be in attendance. Expect to hear some “slow jazz,” New Orleans jazz, zydeco, slow hot jazz, and burlesque blues. (Roughly 2/3 from the first category and1/3 from the second.)
Grease Grit and Grime
Live Band - Saturday Night
In the cracks, under the floorboards, and down a deep dark alley, you will find Grease Grit and Grime. Embodying the expression "dirty blues," this group is schooled in Mississippi Delta and Chicago blues. The meat of the band’s sets is comprised of originals and standards from Chicago, Delta and Swamp blues greats. The band's specialty is getting folks out of their chairs and keeping the dance floor hot! They choose to perform songs that don't give you the blues, but instead lift the blues up "offa ya."
The band started in 2007 in Nevada County by musicians with experience in a variety of professional acts such as the local band Organic Flood, Bay Area acts Lisa Kindred and Ascension, Barry "The Fish" Melton, Luther Tucker, L.C. “Good Rockin’” Robinson and Curtis Lawson.
High points for the band have been opening for Johnny Winter, opening and performing as "house band" for the Excello & Alligator recording artist Lazy Lester and performing in the Polk Street Blues Festival in San Francisco in 2011, propelling the band into other San Francisco dance venue gigs.

The Knickerbocker Blues Band
Live Blues Band - Sunday Night
As a vocalist and guitarist, Rich Werden participates in a diverse array of music projects throughout the San Francisco Bay Area and is the leader of both The Rhythm Roustabouts, which specializes in music of the 1920′s-30′s, as well as it’s bluesier incarnation The Knickerbocker Blues Band.
The Knickerbockers are ready to rally with enough power to keep the party going all night & enough soul to sing your blues through to morning. Celebrating the pulsing music of the 1920s & 30s, the fiery sound that came out of the cauldron of New Orleans and taught a nation to dance its own dances.

DJ Headliners
Dr. Feelgood / Steven Watkins
BluesQuake DJ, San Francisco Bay Area
Steven, a.k.a. Dr. Feelgood, lives in San Francisco/Oakland, though he originally hails from New York City. He began DJing blues for dancers in 2004 and is constantly striving to spread his love for the blues. The Good Doctor tries to bring some smooth, sultry, gritty, "hot skirt music" to the dance floor in order to transform venues into "joints."
Suzanne Sluizer / “DJ Big Mama”
New Mexico
Originally from Chicago, Suzanne first began to DJ as an FM radio “rock jock” longer ago than she cares to remember, and she now calls the high desert of New Mexico home. She has spun sets around the country at exchanges, workshops and weekly dances. Suzanne loves sharing the diverse styles and moods of blues: whether serene or spirited, stately or steamy, submissive or saucy, sublime or sleazy, she’ll play the blues for you and have you saying “Damn right I’ve got the blues!”
